After four years of tireless advocacy, Smart Growth Tulsa is ceasing operations. Founded as a single-proprietorship in 2014, the organization transitioned to an Oklahoma 501(c)4 Non-Profit in 2016, governed by a Board of Trustees, and supported by a stellar 15-member Advisory Board. As the full-time volunteer Executive Director, I’ve managed the corporation’s affairs since the beginning. Unfortunately, we’ve been unsuccessful in securing funding for full-time staffing or to find another volunteer to lead us. The bottom line; I must get back to work to support my family.
Smart Growth Tulsa…a lasting legacy
Smart Growth Tulsa enjoyed solid growth from the beginning. Over 1,000 Tulsans became members by opting in to the organization’s newsletter, and over 6,000 continue to follow SGT on Facebook. I’m eternally grateful to them and the dozens of Tulsans who contributed to that growth with their time, talent and treasure. Quite naturally, I share the disappointment that our friends and followers must feel by this announcement.
We will be mothballing the corporation, and the brand. For archival purposes the website will be parked at Smart Growth Tulsa Archive, in case some person, group or organization with the necessary means comes forward with a plan to continue our vision and mission. In the meantime, I’ll do my best to take up the slack by sponsoring a new web-site and social media presence. It will be called AT HOME TULSA. The real estate platform will focus on neighborhoods and how they are affected by the city’s transportation and land-use policies, and will feature other articles of interest about Tulsa.
At Home Tulsa…a new beginning
I will be blogging, and offering Op/Ed commentary, and occasional policy analysis, as I’ve done for the past 10 years; as well as continuing to share interesting and informative third-party articles and content about what other cities are doing to grow and prosper. The Smart Growth Tulsa Website and Facebook page will be re-branded to At Home Tulsa, but the content will be much the same. The only difference is, that I will be representing only myself, not an organization.
Please allow me the opportunity to earn your continued support, by following the new Blog and Facebook Page as it transitions from Smart Growth Tulsa to AT HOME TULSA. I will do my best to keep it interesting, informative and fun. Thanks again for everything.
